Understanding the Climate in Sri Lanka – Why Timing is Everything
In contrast with many countries with four varied seasons, Sri Lanka is different with its two monsoon seasons that affect the island at varying times. This offers visitors the opportunity to find great weather in some part of the country no matter when they visit!
Two Monsoons, Two Weather Patterns:
Southwest Monsoon (Yala) – from May to September, precipitation gets spread over the west coast, the southwest, and central hill country, includes cities like Colombo, Galle, and Nuwara Eliya.
Northeast Monsoon (Maha) – By October to January, it brings rain to the east coast and northern regions, including places like Trincomalee, Jaffna, and Arugam Bay.
Because of this unique pattern, Sri Lanka is a year-round destination, but certain months are better for specific activities. Let’s break it down season by season.
January through March is the best time of the year for a lot of things!
This is the time for you to try visiting the sunny Island of Sri Lanka if you want the best weather possible.
