Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens

If you are an Indian citizen and wish to travel to Thailand, you will need to get a visa in advance. You can learn more by visiting the official website of the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi. The Thai Embassy in New Delhi has more information about visa types, as well as application instructions.

Types of Visas Available

Indian tourists have access to different visa options, such as:- Tourist permit- which is valid for a maximum of 60 days and mainly for tourism purposes.- Visa on Arrival (VoA)- this allows a maximum stay of 15 days for tourism purposes. Indian tourists must check the current status of the visa on arrival policy, as changes in regulations could occur.- E-Visa- an electronic visa system that makes applying for the visa online much easier. People can apply via the official Thai e-visa portal.

How to apply for a tourist visa to Thailand:

Step 1 is to prepare your documents - Passport valid for at least six months, recent passport-sized photos, complete visa form, proof of Thailand stay, and evidence of sufficient money.

Step 2 is to apply; go to the Thai Embassy, Consulate or visa centre for this.

With step 3, pay the visa fee by checking the current rates on the embassy website, and step 4, wait for your visa to be processed, which can take various amounts of time so it’s best to apply in time for your planned travel date.

Application Process

Indian citizens coming for tourism in Thailand can avail Visa on Arrival for a stay of maximum of 15 days. You will need a valid passport with a validity of at least 30 days from the date of arrival. Fill the visa application form, back it up with a recent passport-sized photograph (4x6 cm), plus confirmed return flight tickets for not more than 15 days. You will also need to have proof of accommodation in Thailand. Moreover, applicants are supposed to not be accompanied by less than 10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family for a stay in Thailand, for which proof of sufficient funds is needed. Upon your arrival at the designated airports, head straight to the Visa on Arrival counters. You would need to submit the required documents and pay the visa fee, which is approximately 2,000 THB. The visa is processed on-the-spot.

The official Thai e-visa website must be visited for the first step. You should register and enter correct information on the online application form to complete the second step. The third step is to upload digital copies of passport, photographs, and any other required documents. The visa fee will be paid online by the fourth step. An e-visa approval will be sent to your registered email once it has been approved. Remember to print a copy of your e-visa and bring it with you when you arrive in Thailand.

How much does a tourist visa cost?

That depends; check the embassy website for the current price. When you get to Thailand, you need to pay 2,000 THB in Thai currency for Visa on Arrival. How much does an E-Visa cost? That depends on the visa type and the selected processing time.

Let's look at some important travel tips for Indian travelers:

1. Thai culture is rich and beautiful, so you should dress modestly when you go to temples and other holy places. Also, remove your shoes before entering any temple.

2. Use local transportation, such as BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway in Bangkok, to get around Thailand in the most efficient way. For short distances, tuk-tuks are a popular choice. Just be sure to settle on a fare ahead of time.

3. Please don't drink tap water and drink bottled water instead. Be cautious about the street food and choose the vendors who have good hygiene.

4. The Thai Baht (THB) is the official currency. Go to the official exchange centers or banks to exchange the money. The rates are better.

5.You should purchase a local SIM card for cheap internet connection. You can get a Tourist SIM card with data packages from some prominent service providers like DTAC.

6.Thailand is a fairly safe place for tourists to be, but be weary of scams in the high tourist areas. In order to avoid scams, be cautious of unsolicited offers for tours or services. The climate in Thailand is tropical.

7. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing you can wear. The rainy season in Thailand is from May to October, so plan your activities accordingly.

8. Here are some Emergency Contacts that you must save:

- Call the police at 1155 for tourist support

- The emergency hotline is 191

9. Most locals in the tourist areas understand English as it is the official language of Thailand. You can make your experience even better by learning some basic Thai phrases.

10. Show your respect to the monarchy, as it's highly esteemed in Thailand. Definitely avoid conversations that could be offensive.

Visa exemptions for Indian citizens It is important to remember that Thailand has allowed Indian citizens to enter the country free of charge from November 10, 2023 to May 10, 2024 in order to boost tourism and improve bilateral connections. However, do research on any potential expansion or new agreements before your travel.

What to be aware of

When applying for a Thai visa, be aware of common scams that can cost you money and even jeopardize your travel plans. Fake visa agents often promise quick approvals or special “connections” with immigration officials, only to disappear after taking your payment. Some fraudulent websites mimic official government portals and charge inflated fees for visa processing. In border areas, scammers may offer “visa runs” with false promises of guaranteed re-entry, leaving travelers stranded. Overpriced “express services” at airports or immigration offices are another common trick, where scammers pose as officials to demand unnecessary fees. To avoid these scams, always use the official Thai embassy or consulate website, double-check visa requirements, and be cautious of anyone offering shortcuts or unusually fast processing times. When visiting Thailand, it's always best to stay on the safe side and take some basic actions:

          • Keep a photocopy of all your important papers in a different location than your original ones.

   • For help, jot down the details of the Indian Embassy in Bangkok.

•To steer clear of surprise violations, get to know what is customary in this area.

In order to have a smooth and pleasant trip to Thailand, it is a good idea to make yourselves aware about current visa laws and to gather the required documentation. Always consult with official sources or the Royal Thai Embassy to acquire the most current information prior to traveling.
